Abstract:

This paper describes the results of an innovative solution that aims to optimize the use of digital resources within a large industry in the telecommunications domain. It attempts to address the challenge of managing large amounts of data by a group of companies, which consists of many subsidiaries that collect, process, and store their own data across heterogeneous systems. The solution is part of an open-source modular framework, the main goal of which is to assist European companies in preparing their data for trading, exchange, and potential monetization. The proposed architecture is based on distributed data management for big data analytics, follows the data product paradigm, and has been validated against real-world business case scenarios. The findings presented in the article show how enterprises can benefit from cutting-edge technology and data-driven insights to achieve both economic growth and cost effectiveness, while respecting the principles of the digital circular economy. In this way, companies make a significant step towards achieving their sustainability and environmental goals, by reducing digital waste and making more efficient usage of their existing data and infrastructure resources.
